Manus Co-Founder Dismisses Crypto Connections Amid Token Scandal
Yichao Ji Clarifies Manus AI's Stance on Cryptocurrency
Yichao “Peak” Ji, the co-founder of the AI startup Manus, has denied any links between Manus and cryptocurrency initiatives. This statement comes in light of the unexpected suspension of the project’s official account on X shortly after launch.
Manus' Dismissal of Crypto Associations
In a recent post on X, Ji suggested that the suspension may have been triggered by misleading references to cryptocurrency scams. He reassured the public that Manus has no ties to such activities.
“Manus has never been involved with cryptocurrency projects, token issuance, or blockchain initiatives,” Ji stated in his post.
He also cautioned that any projects purporting to be affiliated with Manus in the cryptocurrency space are fraudulent. Ji mentioned that the company is pursuing legal action against impersonators and urged users to report suspicious accounts to help combat misinformation. Importantly, Manus’ official account has since been restored.
While Ji’s statement aimed to clarify the situation, the reality in the cryptocurrency market tells a different story. Several tokens labeled “Manus” have appeared on decentralized exchanges, with some launched on the same day as the project and others surfacing mere hours later.
However, despite initial excitement, most of these tokens experienced a sharp decline shortly after their release, raising concerns about potential scams.
“Manus AI didn’t do anything except become too popular suddenly, leading to its name being exploited by cryptocurrency projects with high scam risk,” a user pointed out.
This situation underscores a recurring issue in the crypto industry, where opportunistic developers launch projects intending to mislead investors.
Understanding Manus AI
It is crucial to comprehend what Manus actually represents. This AI agent is designed as an innovative tool developed by the AI company Monica, showcasing its autonomous capabilities.
“We see it as the next paradigm of human-machine collaboration and potentially a glimpse into Artificial General Intelligence (AGI),” Ji said.
Manus operates by executing tasks autonomously, removing the need for detailed human instructions. The project has received praise for its advanced functionalities.
“China’s Manus AI just launched, and it will completely transform the AI agent landscape,” remarked AI educator Min Choi.
Manus can manage a range of tasks, including personalized travel planning, data analysis, educational content creation, and productivity enhancement. Notably, it has outperformed OpenAI’s Deep Research in all three levels of the GAIA benchmark. Currently, Manus is in the early preview phase, with invitations available exclusively through the official website.
