BNB Chain Unveils Major Upgrade - Pascal Hardfork Launch on March 20
BNB Chain Announces Pascal Hardfork Details
BNB Chain is set to launch its major upgrade, the Pascal Hardfork, on March 20, aimed at enhancing its compatibility with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), improving smart contract wallets, and providing increased flexibility for developers.
This upgrade follows closely on the heels of the Ethereum Sepolia Testnet's recent Pectra upgrade, underscoring the brisk advancement occurring within the blockchain space.
What to Expect from the Pascal Hardfork
In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), BNB Chain revealed that the Pascal Hardfork will revolutionize the user experience and boost developer efficiency on the Binance Smart Chain (BSC).
A central aspect of the Pascal Hardfork is the implementation of EIP-7702 (Ethereum Improvement Proposal), which is projected to place the network among the top EVM-compatible chains.
“This makes BNB Chain one of the earliest chains to adopt this EVM upgrade,” the network elaborated.
As highlighted in the announcement, the Pascal Hardfork will enable wallets to operate like smart contracts, unlocking multiple benefits, such as facilitating gasless transactions. This advancement will also empower users with more flexible options for handling gas fees, significantly improving accessibility.
Additionally, the upgrade will allow for batch approvals and swaps, letting users group transactions together. This feature is designed to cut costs and streamline decentralized finance (DeFi) interactions.
The introduction of EIP-7702 aims to simplify web3 onboarding, enhancing the experience for newcomers entering the crypto space.
Reactions and Future Upgrades
Changpeng Zhao (CZ), the founder and former CEO of Binance, has recognized the significance of the Pascal upgrade, labeling it an “Important Hardfork.” BNB Chain has also hinted at forthcoming upgrades beyond the Pascal Hardfork, mentioning the anticipated Lorentz Hardfork planned for April 2025, which is expected to facilitate faster transaction blocks at 1.5 seconds.
Moreover, the Maxwell Hardfork, scheduled for June 2025, aims to further increase transaction speeds to 0.75 seconds.
“Lorentz at 1.5s blocks? Solana already does 0.4s. But Maxwell at 0.75s… BNB’s roadmap is evolution on crack,” a user mused on X.
The timing of this announcement is noteworthy, as it follows the recent Ethereum Sepolia Testnet Pectra upgrade, which enhances Ethereum’s functionality and smart contract capabilities. This juxtaposition suggests intensifying competition among blockchain networks.
Despite the positive news surrounding the upgrade, the price of BNB has remained relatively stable. However, it still stands out as a resilient asset among leading cryptocurrencies, demonstrating a 2% increase over the past month while major tokens like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana have experienced significant losses.
As the Pascal Hardfork approaches, it is imperative for developers and validators to update their systems to maintain synchronization with the network, which is gearing up for faster future enhancements.
